Anghiari is only 3kms from the house and easy walking distance. It is famous for the Battle of Anghiari which took place on 29 June 1440 and is still celebrated each year on this day which makes a fun day out for all the family. The battle inspired the famous lost fresco by Leonardo da Vinci, still yet to be rediscovered.

Anghiari has been voted as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. It has spectacular views across the Tiber Valley and one of the longest and straightest roads which lead up from Sansepolcro to the steep hill in Anghiari.

There is a weekly market, several antique shops and many restaurants and bars. Many events take place during the year and this little town makes for a perfect night out during the warmer months. See Events

Monterchi

Monterchi is a small village about a 10' drive from Casa della Calla. The historical centre is built about 355 meters above sea level and resembles an island in the centre of the valley. Known for housing the remarkable and beautiful painting of Madonna del Parto by Piero della Francesca, one of the most important renaissance works of art. At the top in the main square you will find an enchanting little Enoteca worth a visit for lunch together with a couple of other restaurants a litte further down.

Sansepolcro

Sansepolcro is just over ten minutes away by car and situated on the Tiber valley plain. The birthplace of Piero della Francesca, Santi di Tito, Angiolo Tricca and Raffaellino del colle (a pupil of Raphael).

Here you will find many ice cream parlours, cafe/bars and some wonderful restaurants. If you have a sweet tooth then Chieli is a must. A chic bar and Pasticceria where the cakes are out of this world.

Caprese Michelangelo

The birthplace of another famous Renaissance artist Michelangelo. Sights include the 13th Century church of St John the Baptist where Michelangelo was baptised. There are other ancient churches, a museum and library. Here you will also find some wonderful traditional Tuscan restaurants and enjoy the hill top views.
